Health
Center Volunteer Staff Positions
RECEPTION DESK
- Greet and sign in patients and direct them to the designated
waiting area.
- Notify the Eligibility Specialist when patient needs to be certified
for services.
- Work with medical records volunteer to place patient files at
the Nurses' Station.
- Perform
office clerical work, as necessary.
MEDICAL RECORDS
- Create new medical files for all eligible patients.
- Retrieve existing patient medical files based on appointment
list and re-file them at the end of the night.
- Work with reception desk volunteer to place patient files at
the Nurses' Station.
- Collect statistical information for various reports, as directed
by the Health Center Manager.
HEALTH CENTER SET UP
- Approximately one hour prior to scheduled opening time of the
Health Center, set up the clinic and prepare for evening operations
of the Health Center.
- Follow detailed set up guidelines for the reception desk, medical
records, eligibility specialists, nurses' station and treatment
rooms.
PHARMACY ASSISTANT
- Document inventory of medications received, dispensed and disposed
on the Pharmaceutical Log forms.
- Assist in locating available medications, stocking them by
category and keeping the pharmacy area organized and
clean.
- Complete pharmacy inventories, as directed by the Health Center
Manager.
BI-LINGUAL INTERPRETER
- Act as interpreter
for patients and medical volunteers.
- Answer patients’ questions
and ensure patients clearly understand referrals, medications,
and other instructions.
VOLUNTEER SCHEDULER
- Assist the Health Center Manager
with regular scheduling of the volunteers.
- Coordinate with another volunteer
who makes reminder calls one week in advance to each volunteer
scheduled.
- Coordinate and communicate
schedule changes to the Health Center Manager.
VOLUNTEER TRAINER
- Assist the Health Center Manager to welcome, orient and train new
volunteers at the Health Center.
- Utilize general volunteer and licensed health care professional
training manuals to provide new volunteers with written materials
regarding sign-in procedures, scheduling information, volunteer
job descriptions and duties.
- Coordinate job shadowing of new volunteer with a current volunteer
in appropriate positions.
ELIGIBILITY SPECIALIST
- Attend mandatory training provided by the Florida Department
of Health Volunteer Services.
- Determine eligibility of Shepherd’s
Hope patients according to the criteria provided by the
State of Florida Department
of Health.
- Conduct patient interviews in a designated private area to
ensure the confidentiality of information.
- Determine the
patient’s eligibility and complete required
documentation.
SPIRITUAL CARE VOLUNTEERS- Use effective
listening and communications skills to provide spiritual
and prayer support.
- Interact with patients with sincerity,
empathy, and respect regardless of cultural and religious
background.
- Provide a ministry of listening
and prayer.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH SPECIALIST
- Become familiar with community agencies, services, and
key contact people.
- Provide information to patients
on community resources.
LICENSED HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS -LHCP (Physicians, nurse practitioners,
physician assistants, registered nurses, licensed
practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, and other LHCP)
- Provide primary
care medical services for Shepherd’s Hope
patients.
- Designated nurse
volunteer may coordinate triage and provide assistance with
discharge referrals.
- Social workers,
dieticians, psychologists and other licensed health-care
professionals provide customary services as
appropriate.
