Our Healthy Eating, Active Lifestyle (HEAL) program educates and supports seed-to-table nutrition and lifestyle practices for better health. We are proud to partner with AdventHealth, Bank of America, Direct Relief and OUC to foster health and wellness in our community.

HEAL (Healthy Eating Active Lifestyle) is a free preventative care program that provides nutrition and physical activity education to eligible individuals in Orange and Seminole Counties in Florida. The program is funded by the Health Care District of Palm Beach County and is operated by the Shepherd’s Hope organization.

HEAL is designed to help individuals prevent or manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity through healthy eating and physical activity. The program includes a variety of services, including:

  1. Nutrition education: Participants in the HEAL program receive personalized nutrition education from registered dietitians. This includes information about healthy eating habits, portion control, and meal planning.
  2. Physical activity counseling: HEAL participants also receive physical activity counseling, which includes information about safe and effective exercise routines that can be done at home or in a gym.
  3. Health screenings: HEAL participants receive regular health screenings to monitor their progress and identify any potential health problems.
  4. Referral to medical care: If a HEAL participant is found to have a health problem that requires medical attention, they are referred to a medical provider for further evaluation and treatment.

To be eligible for the HEAL program, individuals must be uninsured, underinsured, or have limited access to medical care. They must also live in Orange or Seminole Counties in Florida and have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher, or a BMI of 23 or higher with at least one additional risk factor for chronic disease.

Overall, the HEAL program is an important resource for individuals who may not have access to regular medical care or who are at risk for chronic diseases. By providing education and support for healthy eating and physical activity, the program aims to improve the overall health and well-being of participants and reduce the risk of chronic disease.
